Christine and Joel Menard have been making wine in the heart of the Coteaux du Layon AOC for more than thirty years. They produce an outstanding array of wines from Cabernet Franc, Grolleau, Gamay and Chenin Blanc. They practice biodynamic methods in their 13-hectares of vines.
Grapes are hand harvested and macerated as whole bunches for 1 month in tank. The finished wine is lightly filtered and sulfured and bottled in the spring.
Coming off Christine and Joel’s 15 year old vines grown on schist, ‘Zeste’ is a relatively new wine in their range as an offshoot from their more straightforward Chenin ‘Le P’tit Blanc’. With a steep maceration and fermentation in stainless steel, ‘Zeste’ is a dry, more aromatic and tannic 100% skin contact Chenin Blanc. A statement wine from Christine and Joel, who proudly proclaim on the bottle – ‘Zest Saves The Winemaker!’
