We tend to gravitate to Ethiopian coffees that are fruit forward. Yet when we tasted this coffee from Heleanna Georgalis we were blown away by how much it tasted like tea – delicious tea at that. It’s a unique cup with pronounced floral and tea notes, accompanied with a soft citric acidity.
Yianni Georgalis started MOPLACO, a coffee exporting company, in 1972. He spent his life exporting some of the best Ethiopian coffees worldwide, and in doing so he became a legendary player in Ethiopia’s coffee scene. After his sudden death in 2008, his daughter Heleanna Georgalis made the tough decision to leave her career in finance, move to Ethiopia and take up the family business with almost no knowledge of coffee. She spent the next few years completely immersed, learning all aspects of the industry. Today, she is known for experimentation and risk taking. She produces some of Ethiopia’s most stunning coffees – like this one we have here.
