ASSISTANT BEVERAGE MAKER & FORAGER
ANXO Brightwood at 711 Kennedy St NW, along with Mushroom & Malus, a new forage-focused venture from the ANXO Team, seeks to hire an Assistant Beverage Maker and Forager! Applications can be found here.
Established in 2016 as a Basque-influenced restaurant making cider out of a single barrel, ANXO has evolved over the years into two brick and mortar restaurants and a full production cider company. Voted Wine Enthusiast Top 100 restaurants in the US in 2018, Washingtonian top 100 restaurants multiple years in a row, and the American Cider Association’s Best Cider Establishment in the region in 2020 among others, ANXO enjoyed its time as full service restaurants.
In March of 2020, the restaurants shifted to an online marketplace for seven day a week delivery and pick-up. In addition to pantry staples and ANXO classics, the marketplace includes locally farmed and foraged produce, house-made cocktails using local and foraged ingredients, seafood and mushrooms for membership boxes and a la carte purchasing.
The cidery has grown beyond this location and ANXO seeks to incubate a new line of products at 711 Kennedy. The growing foraging initiative, Mushroom & Malus, opens the doors to employ a company forager, and we hope that this individual can push the development of our new products in anticipation of the coming harvest.
Assistant Beverage Maker and Forager Responsibilities
The Assistant Beverage Maker and Forager will be responsible for foraging for ANXO Brightwood’s marketplace, menu and cocktail program following legal regulations and safety best practices. In addition, this individual will provide copy (or timely information) about these products for the website and staff education, as well as host both in-person and virtual foraging events for ANXO patrons.
When not foraging, ANXO’s Assistant Beverage Maker and Forager will be tasked with mapping out DC apple trees and developing an outreach and harvest plan for these apples. The employee will conduct bench trials on vermouth production, assist with facility plans, and prepare barrels and a barrel room for apple brandy aging.
In the fall, this individual will oversee a team of foragers procuring both apples for DC Estate cider and botanicals for vermouth. This individual will help install new equipment to set up the production facility, and oversee initial apple and grape ferments (wine, vermouth and cider). The Assistant Beverage Maker and Forager will plan and run other events focused on the fruit we ferment, such as grape-stomping and apple pressing events!
