The Story:
District Dry is about growth; growth for ANXO and for our growers. We revere our local GoldRush but there’s only so much of it and we cannot scale up Cidre Blanc indefinitely. District Dry is our local blend, an evolving mix of the apples our growers can provide in a manner that is sustainable for them.
Always supplemented with GoldRush, District Dry started as a predominantly Rhode Island Greening cider. Greening is a very light, green-apple-y apple and it certainly helped District Dry become our most crushable ciders. Over time, though, we’ve learned the tribulations our growers are facing with Greening, specifically that the fruit now rots on the trees before maturity due to rapid climate change. Greening is on the way out here, and it’s being picked earlier and earlier each year.
District Dry is evolving batch to batch as we are shifting its emphasis to Northern Spy, an apple historically renowned for baking and cider making. If Greening is green-apple-y then Northern Spy is just downright apple-y. In fact, we think our Northern Spy cider is the most apple-forward cider we make. It just tastes like delicious sticky fresh apple juice, even though it’s sugar-free!
District Dry is decidedly not wine-like. It’s the perfect alternative to Cidre Blanc and it’s also the best ANXO cider to segway into if you’re mostly familiar with macro and/or heavily sweetened cider brands, even though it’s sugar-free like all ANXO ciders!
It’s been a long year. Grab a District Dry and unwind!
